Additional Property Attributes

The subject property is located at 508 Commercial Ave., Hinton, West Virginia 25951. The 0.6 acres of land has an existing building that was historically utilized as an ice storage and distribution business and has a perimeter chain-link fence.The Site is surrounded by other commercial buildings that were also part of the railyard. One nearby parcel is being converted to a recreational park by the City. The recreational park will contain basketball courts, a water park, and other community activity areas. The surrounding buildings are no longer a part of the railyard property; however, there is an active railyard, situated to the north of the property.

Former Use: In 2014, the Subject Property was transferred from Vivian Plumley and Rhonda McClaugherty (Gilbert) to the City of Hinton, who is the current property owner. The Subject Property has been used for the following activities: a storage area for coal (Sanborn� 1922); the building was used as a cold storage area for the grocery (Sanborn�1922); a vacant parcel of land; and the current use � storage for the City of Hinton Maintenance Department. Historical knowledge of the Site from the representatives of the City of Hinton stated that the building was used as an ice storage facility, and the sign on the front of the building still reads �Silo Ice�.
