A cap maintenance plan has been created and implemented on the Property to protect direct contact to contaminants below the capped surface. Any disturbance of this cap must be reported to the WDNR and re-capped according to standards.

Additional Property Attributes

The 6.8-acre Property was generally used for agricultural purposes prior to 1845. Barton's first log cabin school was built on the site in 1845 and a grade school was instituted in 1869. The original building was condemned and demolished in 1923. A new elementary school was built on-site and operated until 2013. A two-story masonry building, and storage shed are present at the Property. Portions of the main structure were built in 1924 and additions were constructed in 1955, 1960, 1969, and 2000. The remainder of the Property consists of a parking lot, sidewalks, landscaped areas, and a large grassy area. The northeast corner of the Property is adjacent to the FW Floodway district of the Milwaukee River. Surrounding properties are primarily residential.

Former Use: Barton's first log cabin school was built on the site in 1845 and a grade school was instituted in 1869. The original building was condemned and demolished in 1923. Portions of current structure were built in 1924 and additions were constructed in 1955, 1960, 1969, and 2000. The Barton Elementary School was the longest continually operating public school in the Town of Barton serving the community from 1924 until 2013. The school buildings remain today.
