Additional Property Attributes

The Site is currently used by General Carbide as its Plant #3, where tungsten carbide products are shaped and fired. The corporate offices of General Carbide are housed in the structure, as well. No drying or molding is performed at Plant #3. At Plant #3, the pressed molds from Plant #1 are received. Some molds require additional shape forming in the computer numerical control rooms. Material from the spray dryer of Plant #1 is pressed at Plant #3. Once shaped, the product is heated/baked in the furnace room via electric-powered furnaces.A portion of the Site may have been strip mined in the 1960s. While strip mining may be a concern for building construction or land use, it does not fit the ASTM definition of a REC because hazardous wastes and petroleum products are not typically associated with strip mines. The Phase I assessment has revealed no evidence of RECs in connection with the property.

Former Use: The Site has been used as a tungsten carbide manufacturing facility since 1991. Prior to that, the Site appeared to be mined for coal, and was used for either farming, or was undeveloped forest prior to that.
