Additional Property Attributes

This site is in a commercial and residential area and the three-story building was built in the 1930s. The property is zoned as a school and was previously Central Elementary School and high school. For a time, it also housed the Mason County Board of Education and Central Head Start. The building is currently unoccupied, but the gymnasium is currently utilized by a wrestling team. Main Street Point Pleasant has been in discussion with the Mason County School Board regarding future use of the property. The initial plan for the structure is for much needed housing in the Point Pleasant area. The Mason County School Board has stated they have no plans for future use of the property and are interested in selling the property. Main Street Point Pleasant is actively pursuing redevelopment opportunities throughout the Point Pleasant area, with a target focus on the downtown and immediately surrounding area, which includes the former Central High School property. Main Street Point Pleasant has been interacting with local, county, and regional economic development entities on potential redevelopment of the property. New housing is needed in the Point Pleasant area, and the structure is well suited for this type of redevelopment. Supplemental funding is being used to complete a feasibility study for redevelopment of the building.
