Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: The Columbia Ward Fisheries (CWF) facility is situated in a small stream valley along the northwest shore of Chignik Lagoon. A small, unnamed stream flows through the center of the facility and into the lagoon. The prominent improvement is an earth fill dock that has been extended with wooden piers. The property also has several warehouse buildings, a machine shop, a dining hall, an office, several bunk houses and individual residences, two fuel tank farms, and several boat storage structures. The facility is now defunct and unoccupied. Although referred to as a cannery, the facility has not operated in that capacity in several decades, and was last used in the early 1990s, providing services to the local fishing fleet. Fish caught in the area were loaded onto tenders and transported to other facilities for processing. The CWF facility was mainly used to provide goods, services, and fuel to fishing vessels. Villagers from Chignik Lagoon and Chignik Lake also used the facilitys general store and fuel services.
