Additional Property Attributes

Our redevelopment has begun. Three buildings have been demolished. One was replaced by a playing field that was completed in the fall of 2008. Another was replaced by a new privately funded sports complex. The sports complex Newtown Youth Academy opened for business on November 1, 2008. A third building Greenwich Hall was demolished and has been replaced by a landscaped parking area and green space. New parking areas were constructed to support the sports complex, the municipal office building, recreation trails and the playing field. Renovation of Bridgeport Hall is completed and workers moved in to the Newtown Municipal Center in the fall of 2009. Two buildings were formerly under lease for private reuse but the leases have lasped and are no longer in place. A duplex building #58 has been identified for reuse by Kevin's Community Center, a free medical clinic. A lease agreement is being reviewed. The Newtown Economic Development Commission continutes to market the campus for private reuse and is working with the Fairfield Hills Authority to find investors and new businesses to occupy the campus. Demolition of Litchfield Hall is under way. The Yale building was demolished in the Fall of 2010. The Town of Newtown plans to construct a new Parks and Recreation facility on the campus and architectural plans for the new facility are underway. The clean up on Stratford, Duplex #58 & #59 have been completed. Town staff is reviewing the final reports and documents to close out the project.

Former Use: The Fairfield Hills campus was previously owned by the State of CT and was developed and utilized as a state hospital facility.
